This was my first spirit doll. Willow was made when I was very ill with mania. I was so agitated, restless and out of my mind I decided to research these dolls. I went to Etsy on the internet and had seen them there. I found a shop with a very well known artist's work and began communicating through email about her work.
Her name is Grieselda Tello. Her Spirit Dolls touched me to my chore. She encouraged me to go outside and find a tree to sit under and feel the earth, wind and sun. Breathing deeply the warm air of summer, I leaned against my willow tree and just listened to all the sounds of nature.
Near our apartment complex is a reserve for wild life. There is a bridge over the pond where folks can walk and sit. I walked that way gathering little sticks and stones a long the path to the bridge. I sat down on one of the benches on the bridge and meditated for a bit. I found moss and gathered some evergreens along the path home.
Grieselda encouraged me every day for several days. I already had many supplies because of all the beading I had done throughout the years. I sat down in my studio and pulled one of my wooden chairs up to me and started my creation. My heart and spirit began to develop movement within my hands. It's as if I were channeling a divine force. My brain shut down and it seemed my subconscious took over as I worked.
I was venturing into a new world, a path I felt was my own beauty world; the beginning of a journey I knew would heal my sometimes weary soul and have a profound affect on me for many years to come.
