I wanted to try something a little bit different with Lili. I used a printed fabric on the body and gave her a sweet heart to hold. Much of the doll art I find so inspiring is found on my Pinterest page. Just google Brigit Snyder Pinterest. You will see some wonderful doll art by other artists. Judith was fun to do. I am learning to sew pleats and jumpers. On this doll I trimmed her little dress with antique looking lace. I really like drawing little faces on my dolls now, it gives them a little personal look.

I thoroughly enjoyed making Annie. I designed her body. Aged her a bit to look old and a little scruffy. I usually use an instant coffee, cinnamon and vanilla mixture on the body, mix a little water and brush it on the body of the doll. The oven is set for about 320 degrees and I cook them a little on both sides. It's difficult for me to sew. I am so out of practice. There are many styles and ideas and creative ways to do dolls and folk art. Many of these dolls came from about the 18th, 19th and 20th century. I enjoy aging the fabric. Baking it for about five minutes on each side on a moderate temperature, I used sand paper to give it an old, worn out look. The green brocaded silk on this dolls garment has an extraordinary story. My dear friend operates a senior center in our area. She came to me one day offering me the silk fabric for my dolls. She told me one of the ladies who attends the center brought it in to her and told her to find it a good home. The fabric belonged to her son who had brought it home for his Mother from Japan. He later became severely disabled from agent orange fighting in war and died several years later from the disease. A gift of the highest form of love. Now much of it belongs to me. I always wanted to go to Mardi Gras. The beaded and masked revelers fascinated me. I awed at everything. The mystic, magical movements of the people pulling from their secrets desires to dance with their archetypes, the self that is hidden away on most days . Celebrating the pure joy of the human and perhaps non human elements of our souls. This doll represents frivolity, laughter and brighter days. Perhaps a bliss of the sense we call the sixth. Although her eyes are closed she never sleeps. I just made her for the fun of it all... Face Made By Linsart at Etsy. Many years ago when I beaded some of these special bags. It would take sometimes weeks if not months to finish one. Being very ill I lived in a dead fog at times, listless incapable of little movement. I never gave up. Working with beads, gems, tools and supplies became one of my reasons to be. I was looking the beauty of heaven on this earth squarely in the face. I used my hands, heart, desires and thirst for the passion of creativity to overcome the often times crippling affects from illness. I became even more determined to rise above this death trap and live, function regardless of how long it took me. This lovely bag has emerald in the fringe and crystals of many kinds for a strap. It reminds me of The Desert South West. I loved working on it and am blessed to be able to still do my work. |
